My Art
Aneurin's work is inspired by the landscape around his home in Llansannan. This is the area where he was raised, an area of quiet agricultural hills that melt into the Hiraethog highlands. On the horizon is Eryri to the west and the light over the Hiraethog peatlands moves quickly and creates thrilling moments. Aneurin tries to capture these moments of light, often using a dark palette but with deep colour in order to magnify the effect of the light areas of the landscape.
There are also several examples in his work of the mountains of Eryri in their rugged majesty and the medium of heavy paint will be a suggestion of the weight of the mountains and the steepness that is typical of the mountains.
Note also the use of moonlight and sunlight in most of his work. It includes the origin of the intentional light as this grabs sky and earth, sky and lakes and streams and the sky and the silent space beyond what is seen. There is therefore a strong spiritual element in his work which conveys the rare moments of light, the origin and connection of the light and the mystery of the next moment - when that comes.
A theme that captures this mystery and the landscape of Wales is his series on the ancient stones and vaults of west Wales. These amazing stones were found in their landscape conveying their relationship with our history as a nation and our memory as humanity.
Aneurin was born in the north east of India in the hills of Mizoram and was a frequent visitor to that area but his roots and the roots of his family are in Bro Hiraethog.
